Mark Robinson: Republican gubernatorial candidate treated for burns after ‘campaign incident’

Robinson was attending a campaign event in Mount Airy, located near the North Carolina-Virginia border, at the time of the incident.

He suffered burns and was taken to the hospital for treatment. Second-degree burns are the most common type of burn. Although not as serious as a third-degree burn, this is an injury that causes pain, redness, swelling, and skin blisters.

Robinson’s spokeswoman said he would resume public campaigning on Saturday.

The candidate is reportedly campaigning this week and resisting pressure from state Republicans and Trump’s team to drop out of the race.

According to a CNN report published on September 19, he posted a post on a porn site bulletin board about 10 years ago, referring to himself as a ‘black Nazi’ and saying he preferred Hitler to then-President Barack Obama.

Robinson, who was elected North Carolina’s first black lieutenant governor in 2020, branded the report a “tabloid lie” and said the posts were not his words.

Days after the report was released, his campaign manager, deputy campaign manager, finance director and senior adviser all resigned.

Robinson previously received a direct public endorsement from Donald Trump, who called him “Martin Luther King on steroids,” but has not made a single appearance with the Republican presidential candidate since the report was made public.

President Trump later held two campaign rallies in North Carolina, and when asked by reporters on Thursday whether he would withdraw his support, he replied, “I don’t know the situation.”

The Kamala Harris campaign also released a video capturing the controversy surrounding Robinson’s campaign. Polls show Harris and Trump effectively tied among voters in potentially pivotal swing states.
