London City Lionesses have announced the signing of former England goalkeeper Mary Earps.
The 33-year-old will officially join Paris Saint-Germain on a two-year contract on July 1, when his contract expires.
The Earps returned to the WSL two years after leaving Manchester United. In five seasons at Manchester United, she made 102 appearances and kept 45 clean sheets.
She retired from a glittering international career in a shock announcement after losing her starting goalkeeper spot to Hannah Hampton just five weeks before the Euros last summer.
The Earps played a key role in England’s Euro 2022 success and qualification for the World Cup final a year later.
“I’m really excited and really excited to be joining this club,” Earps said.
“I think the club matches what I’m looking for. I can’t wait to get started and get down to business.”
London City appear determined to make a number of statement signings this summer. There is a lot of interest in Ballon d’Or winner Alexia Putelas.
Earps: I have so much to give. So I chose London City.
In a statement confirming her arrival, the Earps explained why she was joining London City, who were promoted to the WSL for the first time last season and finished sixth.
Earps went on to add: “The club’s values represent what I want to represent, they are passionate about what I want to achieve and change the game in a positive way. “Every conversation has been really positive and every time I speak to the club I want to hear more.
“The vision and ambition, including the new training facility, is incredible and I look forward to seeing it develop. It shows what our owner Michel (Kang) and everyone at the club really want.
“This is about putting down the marker and saying we want to be competitive in a short amount of time.
“I’m looking forward to working with Elene (Lete) and the team of goalkeepers. Elene made some great saves and interventions last season and hopefully we can bounce off each other, work hard and have fun.
“My message to the fans is we’re really excited to get started and make memories together and we can’t wait to play in front of you all.
“I’m looking forward to getting to know the players, their style of play and the club culture, and trying to give everything I can to help the club achieve its common goals and be as successful as possible.
“I think there is still so much left to put into the game and that is why I chose London City.
“It won’t be easy. The WSL is very competitive. The team had a stellar 2025/26 season, finishing mid-table in their first season. Now they are looking to climb the ranks and achieve as high a position as possible.”
The City of London has an ever-growing list of celebrities.
Sky Sports’ Laura Hunter:
Another coup for London City. Celebrity contracts continue to grow, and it doesn’t look like they’ll stop with Mary Earps. Ambitions have extended to signing former Barcelona captain Alexia Putellas as a free agent this summer. It really is going to be the signature goat.
This is a star-studded cast for a team that has remained in England’s top flight for just one season, thanks to the wealth of free-spending owner Michele Kang.
You might be wondering how all these superstars will gel under one roof. In modern times, there are many examples of such formulas failing. Most notably, it is the men’s game. I think of PSG’s Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe. The atmosphere was completely different.
Nonetheless, there is no doubt that the Earps have made a big signing for London City and one that significantly improves them.
Eder Maestre’s side scored 35 goals last season, above the league average (32). If the plan is to dismantle the division’s traditional top four, they need to address this issue.
