Scotland Women have taken their WXV2 campaign to two wins and two losses after beating Japan.

Scotland made it two wins in as many games in their WXV2 campaign with a 19-13 win over Japan in Cape Town.

After thrashing Italy 19-0 in last weekend’s opener, coach Brian Eason’s side were left hungry for a result as Japan continued to threaten a comeback.

Within two minutes, Francesca McGhie crossed to put Scotland ahead and Helen Nelson added a second goal.

Seina Saito scored a try after 28 minutes but Alex Stewart scored just before half-time to give Scotland a 12-5 lead at the break.

Ayasa Otsuka kicked a 57th-minute penalty but Scotland appeared to disappear from sight six minutes later when Rhona Lloyd’s try was converted by Meryl Smith.

However, Japan captain Iroha Nagata crossed with 14 minutes left in the game to narrow the gap to 6 points, but Scotland were able to hold on.
