Mauricio Pochettino: Former Chelsea boss set to become new USA manager | Football News

Former Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino is expected to soon reach an agreement to be appointed as the new head coach of the United States men's national soccer team, with talks reaching an advanced stage.

Pochettino was a key target to lead the United States to the 2026 World Cup at home.

The 52-year-old has had numerous offers from the UK and Europe but – after lengthy discussions – the US role appears too good to turn down. There is still work to be done on the final details of the contract.

Pochettino, who previously managed Southampton, Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain, has never managed a national team before.

The Argentine enjoyed early success at Saints before moving to north London, leading Spurs to their first ever Champions League final in 2019 as well as achieving the club's highest ever league finish. Pochettino has also won the Ligue 1 title with PSG.

If a deal is agreed, Pochettino will work with US Soccer sporting director Matt Crocker. The pair worked together during Pochettino's time at Southampton, with Crocker leading the academy at the time.

10 signings and 43 players: What's happening at Chelsea?

Enzo Maresca

Pochettino left Chelsea at the start of the summer, with Enzo Maresca replacing him in the dugout at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have made 10 summer signings so far, spending £185.4m, with more to come. With 20 players also leaving, Chelsea have made headlines in another transfer window.

As Maresca embarks on his first season in west London, Chelsea continue to add to one of the largest Premier League squads ever.

There are growing doubts among supporters about the club's strategy to get back to the top flight.
