Midjourney, an AI lab best known for its LLM-based image and video generator, has acquired social astrology app Co-Star, according to Bloomberg. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Known to have around 4.3 million monthly active users, Co-Star is mostly used by people to determine their astrological birth chart, which they can share with other friends on the app. Co-Star uses both AI and human writing to create horoscopes, compatibility assessments, and other advice based on users’ astrological information.
Midjourney seems to be casting a wide net when it comes to its product lineup. The company seems almost synonymous with its Discord server where users can create text and images (there’s no standalone Midjourney app), but its AI lab is also working to build a medical arm and spa. How about using an astrology app together?
The Co-Star team of 24 employees joined Midjourney as part of the acquisition. Given the team’s experience building consumer apps, Midjourney could finally get its own standalone app.
