Third time lucky for British Mayer?
Mayer’s previous professional defeats were her only two on British soil, including a controversial decision loss to Alicia Baumgardner in London in 2022 and a split decision loss to Natasha Jonas in Liverpool in January 2024.
A Jonas rematch never happened, but Mayer got his second chance later that year, becoming a two-weight world champion and defeating WBO welterweight world champion Sandy Ryan in Fight of the Year.
Mayer defeated Ryan in a rematch to win her third weight division in her final fight in October, and won the WBA, WBC and WBO junior middleweight titles by outpointing Canadian star Mary Spencer over 10 rounds in Montreal.
“I always said I didn’t always have the best luck in England, but that didn’t stop me from coming back,” Mayer said. Sky Sports exclusive report.
“I love fighting there. I love the fans over there, the people, the energy in the stadium. It’s always great. This time I’ll have to go and get it done. Three’s the charm!”
