Moeen Ali, Brendon McCullum help England white-ball captain Jos Buttler get the best out of him | Cricket News

Moin Ali believes Brendan McCullum's aggressive approach to cricket will help the England white-ball captain get the best out of himself after New Zealander Jos Buttler was appointed coach.

McCullum has worked with the England Test team for the past two years and will lead the white-ball set-up from January next year following the departure of Matthew Moat in July, and he is likely to apply a similar 'buzzball' philosophy to the limited-overs role.

The 42-year-old was renowned as an aggressive batsman during his playing days in both red-ball and white-ball cricket, and Moyn, a recently retired former England all-rounder, is hopeful his coaching style will benefit captain Buttler.

After announcing his retirement from international cricket, Moeen Ali admitted that he had always dreamed of playing for his country and just making one appearance would be enough.

“I think Brendan was there, did the job and the way he played helped,” Moeen said. Sky Sports. “I think it can be quite difficult if the coach says, 'Do this,' but they never did that.

“Brendan brings that kind of energy, and I think that's going to help Joss a lot more than anything.

“Jos has so much going for him with batting, wicketkeeping and captaincy. I think Brendon can take the pressure off and just play on the pitch and captain the side.

“I think Brendan will have more control.”

Michael Atherton discusses his new appointment as England's white-ball manager with Brendon McCullum.

Moeen has decided to end his international career after being left out of the team for the upcoming white-ball series against Australia, which consists of three T20Is and five one-day internationals, with Marcus Trescothick acting as caretaker head coach and which will be broadcast live. Sky Sports From Wednesday, September 11th.

He has played 138 ODIs and 92 T20Is for England, proving to be a key player with both bat and ball, and the 37-year-old has served as Buttler's vice-captain since being promoted as captain following Eoin Morgan's promotion.

Butler has decided to retire, but he expects many potential leaders to thrive under his leadership.

“Even when Morgue first took over, I don't think he had a right-hand man,” Moyn said. “I think a good captain or a top captain creates leaders.

Brendon McCullum is very confident in Jos Buttler's status as white-ball captain and hopes he enjoys playing for England again.

“I think over time (Butler) will get it. Obviously right now we have Sam Curran and guys who can lead.

“Sometimes as a vice-captain I can talk too much and give too much advice, and sometimes I look back and think I did that.

“Joss will make everyone feel like they can come to him and talk to him. He's very approachable. I think there are a lot of leaders out there who can be big leaders in the future.”

Trecosick: McCollum appointment would benefit both teams

Trescothick expects both England's Test and limited-overs teams will benefit from McCullum adding white-ball coaching responsibilities to his remit.

Phil Salt (captain), Will Jacks, Jordan Cox, Liam Livingstone, Jacob Bethell, Sam Curran, Jamie Overton, Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, Saqib Mahmood, Reece Topley.

The former England opener and Test team's batting coach said he and other members of the coaching staff had encouraged the New Zealander to take up the role and was confident McCullum could have the same level of impact.

“I'm very happy with the decision,” Trescosick said. “As assistant coach, we've been urging Brendan to take the job because of the impact he's had on the Test team.

“Having him take over full-time would be beneficial to the team in both ways. It's great to have a leader of that caliber and we all know he's done a great job.

“We're trying to replicate a lot of what we do in Test matches. We want to use the same messaging, the same language, the same approach.

Marcus Trescothick says he is delighted to have Brendon McCullum take over as England's white-ball head coach.
