McLaren has unveiled a special livery for this weekend's Monaco Grand Prix in tribute to Ayrton Senna.
Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri will drive through the streets of Monte Carlo, famous for the vibrant yellow, green and blue colors that represent Brazil, where three-time world champion Senna is from. .
Senna holds the record for the most wins at the Monaco Grand Prix with six wins, including five consecutive wins from 1989 to 1993.
McLaren's last Monaco win came in 2008 when Lewis Hamilton overcame two punctures and wet weather to top the podium.
Norris finished third for McLaren at the 2021 Monaco Grand Prix and will be keen to go two places higher in his Senna-inspired one-off livery this Sunday.
“The team is proud to recognize and celebrate the extraordinary life and racing legacy of Ayrton Senna through this McLaren livery,” said McLaren CEO Zak Brown.
“Senna remains Formula 1's greatest icon and McLaren's most decorated driver, respected and revered. His impact on McLaren is not only through his racing record, but also through his presence within the team and now his legacy. It's an honor to race on it because it's huge and he's been on some of the most successful circuits in the colors green, yellow and blue.
“On the 30th anniversary of his death, the team has decided to honor and commemorate his life in Monaco, one of his favorite and most successful racing venues. We look forward to racing in this vibrant and beautiful livery this weekend. .”
The Senna family would like to thank McLaren.
Piastri and Norris will don bespoke overalls this weekend as they look to continue McLaren's strong recent form.
Norris achieved three podium finishes, narrowly defeating Max Verstappen at Imola, two weeks after his first F1 win.
The British driver is fourth in the drivers' championship, 60 points behind Verstappen, while McLaren is third in the constructors' standings.
McLaren Automotive also unveiled a one-off version of the McLaren Senna road car, named Senna Sempre, which complements the F1 livery.
“We are honored to work with McLaren Racing and McLaren Automotive to recognize Ayrton with this livery,” said Bianca Senna, Ayrton’s niece.
“It’s a fantastic way to celebrate his life and legacy through his iconic colors on both cars. The McLaren meant a lot to him and together they had many successes, many of which are still remembered by many today. “It’s special to see him racing on the streets of Monaco, a circuit that has brought him so much joy and so many victories.”
Bruna Senna, former F1 driver and Ayrton's nephew, was added. Sky Sports News: “It is an incredible achievement on our part to be working with McLaren. Our idea is to perpetuate the image and what Ayrton stood for and this is a huge help towards that goal.
“Ayrton still makes a lot of people feel good and passing that on to the younger generation who watch F1 is very important to us. Thanks to Zak and McLaren for allowing us to take over a little bit and bringing back great memories. Thank you, especially in Monaco, where we still hold the record for most wins.”
