Pole vaulter Mondo Duplantis added a centimeter to his world record by clearing 6.31 meters in Sweden on Thursday.

Duplantis, an Olympic and world champion, set four new world pole vault records in 2025, won all 16 events and picked up where he left off in the new year.

This time, Duplantis started at 5.65m in his event, the Mondo Classic, then went 5.90m, then 6.08m. The best time was saved until last after the American-born Swede jumped 6.31 meters in Uppsala.

“I’m so proud to be able to do this in front of you all,” Duplantis told the crowd.

“I play for myself, I play for my family, but I also play for you, Sweden and everyone who supports me.”

Sondre Guttormsen of Norway took second place after clearing 6.00m, becoming the second person to jump 6m this season.

Americans Zachery Bradford and Sam Kendricks and Australia’s Kurtis Marschall each cleared 5.90 meters to take third, fourth and fifth places, respectively.

Before Duplantis jumped, the world record was held by France’s Renaud Lavillenie, who jumped 6.16 meters in 2014.
