England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt will miss the remainder of the team’s fixtures in South Africa after returning home due to family issues.
The ECB said on Thursday it did not expect her to take any further part in the tour.
The trip was meant to prepare for this summer’s Women’s T20 World Cup, but was moved from Abu Dhabi to South Africa due to conflict in the Middle East.
Sciver-Brunt led the Brittin team, coached by Jon JJ Lewis, against vice-captain Charlie Dean’s Team Heyhoe Flint, coached by Luke Williams.
The tour features eight players yet to feature for England, including Tilly Corteen-Coleman, Jodi Grewcock, Grace Potts, Grace Scrivens, Alexa Stonehouse, Davina Perrin, Rhianna Southby and Ellie Threlkeld, who are catching the eye of selectors.
The Women’s T20 World Cup opens on June 12 with England taking on Sri Lanka at Edgbaston, with the final scheduled for July 5 at Lord’s.
England, which lost in the semifinals of the 50-over World Cup last October, has won all four World Cups it has held so far.
Sciver-Brunt highlighted England’s desire to match the Red Roses’ home success after the England women’s football team recently won the 2022 Euros as hosts and last year’s Rugby World Cup triumph.
“This is your home World Cup, and the energy you get in front of a crowd that’s actually behind you is very special. It’s an addictive feeling,” Sciver-Brunt said. Sky Sports News.
“This is an incredible time for women’s cricket, and so many women’s sporting teams have performed spectacularly well over the past few years, including the Lionesses and Red Roses, so hopefully we’re next in line to do something truly special for this country.
“I’m hoping we can take the country by storm over the summer.”
