Netflix has just introduced a new way to experience subtitles that don’t need to read audio signals such as “door slam” or “phone ring”.
Netflix’s new dialogue subtitles announced on Thursdays can be activated by “go to audio” and then move to “subtitles.” The user shows the option of “English” instead of “English (cc)”, which indicates that only a spoken word is included.
This option complements the existing closed caption (CC) that accommodates the deaf and difficult hearing community. This includes all important audio signals, such as voice dialogue, sound effects and music indicators.
However, the conversation -only subtitle provides a simplified alternative, displaying only the conversation without any additional context.
This new option is a response to the popularity of subtitles. According to Netflix, almost half of all viewing time in the United States is consumed in a state where the subtitles are turned on.
Conversation -only subtitles are now available in the new season of “You” and will soon appear in other new Netflix original titles of all languages provided by streaming services.
