New regional flight options from African airlines: Travel Weekly

Southern Africa’s air links have expanded with new and reopened routes, making multi-purpose travel easier to plan. Two airlines have announced significant additions to their regional networks.

Proflight Zambia will launch its Cape Town-Livingstone service on December 1, providing a direct link from the South African tourism hub to Victoria Falls. Flights run twice a week (Thursday and Sunday) with additional Saturday operations during peak holiday periods from December to early January.

“Our timings are specifically designed around the tourist experience,” said Josias Walubita, Proflight Zambia Director of Aviation Operations. “Passengers can leave Cape Town after breakfast and arrive at Victoria Falls in time for an afternoon sunset cruise.”

Meanwhile, Air Tanzania will resume flights between Dar es Salaam and Johannesburg five times a week on November 30. This service was discontinued in 2019. Operated by the Boeing 737-9 Max, the route connects passengers to regional attractions such as Zanzibar and Kilimanjaro, as well as international destinations in China, Dubai and India.

“We are delighted to be relaunching this important route, which will strengthen the travel network between Tanzania and South Africa,” said Patrick Ndekana, Commercial Director at Air Tanzania.

The new service enhances regional tourism opportunities, with Livingstone acting as a gateway to Zambia safari destinations and Dar es Salaam providing access to Indian Ocean beaches and wildlife areas.
