A new tourist mural celebrating love and peace is now in the Downtown Kingston Art District. The mural was unveiled on September 27, 2024 (World Tourism Day) by the Jamaican Ministry of Tourism in commemoration of Tourism Awareness Week. This was a joint effort between the Tourism Product Development Company (TPDCo) and Kingston Creative.

This mural, titled “Tourism and Peace: One Love Among Many,” is a vivid representation of Jamaica’s rich cultural heritage. Located on Peters Lane, the building pays homage to key elements of Jamaica. Masterpiece features the island’s music, food, artists, attractions and activities.
A powerful artistic statement was the work of lead muralist Sheldon Blake and his assistant Rohan Cargill. It symbolizes the connection between tourism, peace, and cultural exchange. This mural is a poignant reminder of how resilient this country is, its commitment to peace-building efforts, and the pivotal role of tourism in uniting Jamaica’s culture.
In a message read by Permanent Secretary and Tourism Minister Jennifer Griffith, Hon. Edmund Bartlett expressed that the mural reflects Jamaica’s thriving tourism sector. He said tourism has done much for Jamaica and the mural expresses this, especially tourism’s ability to unite people, break down barriers, heal divisions and celebrate the beauty of diversity.
TPDCo Executive Director Wade Mars emphasized the mural’s deep connection to Kingston’s identity. He said Kingston is the heart and capital of Jamaica, a commercial and governmental hub as well as a cultural landmark. Mars also said the mural is a fitting addition to the Downtown Kingston Art District.
Janet Crick, associate director at Kingston Creative, was also intrigued. She is excited about adding a mural to the space and the impact the artwork is having on the community. She hopes the new mural will bring more love to the city and country.
