New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn dismissed questions about Justin Fields’ future after a disastrous performance against the Denver Broncos in London that saw the Jets move to 0-6 without a win for the team’s starting quarterback.
Fields was sacked nine times and threw for 45 yards as the Jets’ offense struggled mightily at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, finishing the game with an astonishing -10 net passing yards against an impressive Broncos defense.
Glenn was asked after the game if he would consider sitting on the Fields bench next week.
“Hey, what question is that?” he answered.
“There are a lot of players who are not playing well, but that doesn’t mean you put them on the bench. You know better than that.
“Everyone played a role. Not just Justin. I understand where you’re trying to take it, but I don’t want to limit this all to just Justin because there are a lot of people who have to pick their game.”
Glenn and Fields both arrived at the Jets ahead of the 2025 season, tasked with restoring their fortunes after a disastrous 2024 season that ended with just five wins.
But their struggles have continued and arguably deepened, and Sunday’s lifeless display in London only served to heighten fears among a weary fan base.
“We’re in this hole. We’re 0-6 and we insist we are, but we’re going to keep getting better,” Glenn pledged.
“No one will pity you.”
Payton acknowledged victory with ‘outstanding’ defense
The Broncos’ win moved them to 4-2 on the season and, crucially, maintained the momentum they built with last week’s come-from-behind win over the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles.
In London, they relied heavily on a strong defensive unit, whose ninth and final sack of the game sealed the win as the Jets closed in on a possible game-winning field goal attempt.
Broncos cornerback Pat Surtain II is the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year, and linebacker Nik Bonitto is an early frontrunner to win the award this season, accounting for a league-leading eight sacks so far.
“Our defense played great today,” coach Sean Payton said.
“For the most part, we kept it where we wanted it.”
“It was great to get the win. They didn’t get an easy win, especially the way they finished on the edge of field goal range.”
“They don’t have to be aesthetically pleasing. They put you in a third situation where you really don’t want to be.
“It’s frustrating (when the offense doesn’t click), but we were fortunate that our defense rose to the occasion.”
