Belgium had an overwhelming advantage over New Zealand, scoring 35 shots against a team that was ranked last in its group and eliminated from the World Cup finals.
Trossard got Belgium’s deserved breakthrough with a poacher’s finish from a corner in the 28th minute.
The Arsenal forward eventually doubled Rudi Garcia’s side’s lead five minutes into the second half with a good chest and volley.
With Egypt held to a draw with Iran, Kevin De Bruyne’s sublime low strike lifted Belgium to Group G victory before Motherwell’s Elijah Just scored in the 84th minute to briefly secure runners-up spot.
However, Romelu Lukaku immediately restored Belgium’s three-goal lead with a header 64 seconds after being introduced.
Fellow substitute Alexis Saelemaekers added a fifth in added time as Belgium avoided successive group stage World Cup exits.
