Nicky Henderson: Constitution Hill ‘looking fantastic’ ahead of Christmas hurdle goal | racing news

Constitution Hill is doing well in his comeback bid and is looking increasingly likely to return in the Ladbrokes Christmas Hurdle on Boxing Day.

Nicky Henderson’s stable star has been suffering from a variety of ailments since winning last season’s race and went into labor after missing the Cheltenham Festival with an infection.

His first start of the year was further delayed after he was found to be poor ahead of the Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle, but the injury proved to be fairly harmless and Henderson still hoped to qualify for Kempton Park.

Those hopes look set to have every chance of being realized and the trainer does not rule out turning Sir Gino to the fences at the same meeting after the four-year-old landed Fighting Fifth while his stablemate was away.

“Everything is going well,” said Constitution Hill’s Henderson.

“I can tell you how many days there are (until the Christmas Hurdle) and I think we have every chance of getting there. I’ve never seen him look better. He’s fantastic.”

“He’s got some work to do, and I think we’ll get there.

“There is still a chance that Sir Gino will appear over the fence at Kempton. He has to go somewhere. It’s all up in the air, so let’s see how we get there.

“I’m not saying we won’t (run both at the Christmas Obstacle), we might.

“I’m still tempted by Sir Gino’s fences because he’s such a good jumper. We haven’t trained him over fences since Fighting Fifth. We’re thinking about it.”
