Scotland’s Nico Carrillo challenges Superlek Kiatmoo9 for the ONE Championship Muay Thai bantamweight world title.
Carrillo is set to face one of the best strikers on the planet, Superlek, at the ONE 170 event on January 24th at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand.
This title match pits two of the most destructive finishers in ONE Championship against each other.
Carrillo has won all of his fights as a promotion, with the hard-hitting Scotsman stopping them all within distance.
Muay Thai legend Superlek will make his first appearance in September as he looks to defend the title he won with a stunning elbow strike in a first-round match against British star Jonathan Haggerty.
It was a brutal ending and the highlight of a stellar year for the weight-gaining Superlek.
Superlek, known as the ‘Kicking Machine’, showed just how devastating his leg strikes could be in a spectacular kickboxing match against Japanese star Takeru in early 2024.
However, Carrillo is the number one contender in the division and has been targeting the bantamweight Muay Thai titleholder.
Glasgow’s ‘King of the North’ has his sights set on winning the Championship.
“I did everything I said I would. I put my neck on the line because I made these bold statements about what I was going to do,” Carrollo previously said. sky sports.
“I have a burning belief in myself. I prove myself right every time.”
Remaining undefeated at ONE Championship, with all four of his wins coming via knockout, underlines that confidence. “We changed our style because we know what the fans want to see in ONE and that is violence,” he added.
“It was an amazing idea from our boss (ONE CEO Chatri Sityodtong) to change the gloves to 4 ounces. It’s a lot more fun and a lot more violent.
“When I transitioned to ONE Championship it was almost like a new sport to me. Fighting for ONE you can’t do that because until you absorb a kick or punch from your gloves everything goes through. You can’t do that in such a small space.
“Even a jab can put out the fire. Lack of concentration is fatal.”
Carrillo is a man on a mission.
“My goal is more than just fighting. My goal is to inspire the younger generation. To inspire people. I come from a tough place, humble beginnings. You don’t have to grow up with everything to get it all. .” he said. .
“You can choose your path.”
