Nikola Jokic recorded a 56-point triple-double and set an NBA record with 18 points in overtime, leading the Denver Nuggets to a 142-138 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Christmas Day.
A seven-time NBA All-Star, Jokic is the first player in NBA history to record 55+ points, 15+ rebounds, and 15+ assists in a game.
The Serbian broke Stephen Curry’s overtime scoring record of 17 points in 2016, the most by any player in the regular season or NBA playoffs.
Jokic added 16 rebounds and 15 assists and Jamal Murray had 35 points as the Nuggets improved to 3-0 on the season against the Wolves, who got 44 points from Anthony Edwards but was ejected in overtime for contesting a foul call.
The Nuggets won Tuesday night against Dallas despite missing three starters, including Cameron Johnson, who suffered a right knee injury.
Edwards made good on his prediction of a big Christmas night performance, helping Minnesota come back from a 15-point deficit in the final 5 1/2 minutes of regulation to hit a twisted 3-pointer with 1.1 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 115-15.

Edwards quickly added seven points as the Wolves went on a 9-0 run to start overtime, but when the Nuggets fought back, Edwards was ejected for two technical fouls.
Jokic went 3-of-3 from the floor in overtime, including 2-of-2 from long range while going 10-of-11 from the foul line. The Nuggets fell behind 124-115 after blowing a 15-point lead in the fourth quarter, but went on an 11-2 run to tie the game at 126-126.
The Nuggets were down three starters after Johnson hyperextended his right knee Tuesday night in Dallas. Johnson joined Aaron Gordon (hamstring) and Christian Braun (ankle) on Denver’s sideline.
With Johnson out, Tim Hardaway Jr got the start and scored 19 points. By the third quarter, Joker had recorded his 179th career triple-double, two behind Oscar Robertson for second in NBA history.
