Nintendo sues U.S. government for tariff refund

Nintendo on Friday filed a lawsuit against the U.S. government over collecting tariffs from global companies. The gaming giant is seeking a refund for all tariffs paid due to President Donald Trump’s executive order invoking the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA).

The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. Court of International Trade, comes after the Supreme Court struck down tariffs imposed under IEEPA, arguing the president exceeded his authority. More than a thousand other companies have filed suit seeking refunds for duties they have already paid. According to Nintendo’s complaint reviewed by TechCrunch, these tariffs resulted in a total collection of more than $200 billion in imports.

“We can confirm that we have submitted a request,” Nintendo told TechCrunch in a statement. “I have nothing more to share on that topic.”

President Trump called the Supreme Court’s ruling “very anti-American” and raised tariffs from 10% to 15%. Now, 24 states have filed lawsuits to argue that the president has once again overstepped the limits of his power with these changes.
