Norwegian Cruise Line is in the midst of a $150 million expansion of its Great Stirrup Cay dock in the Bahamas with a nearly six-acre water park, a massive heated lagoon-style pool and a diverse lineup of new attractions as it prepares for a significant increase in Caribbean cruise traffic by 2026.
The project represents the largest redevelopment in the history of the private island destination that Norwegian Cruise Line has operated in the Bahamas for decades.
At the heart of the expansion is a new dock that will allow two large cruise ships to dock at Great Stirrup Cay simultaneously, eliminating one of the island’s biggest operating restrictions.
For years, passengers visiting the island have relied on tender boats to reach the beach, a process that can be slow on busy days and vulnerable to weather conditions. The new dock is expected to be fully operational in 2026 and is designed to support more passengers on Norway’s expanding Caribbean network while reducing transit times.
Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings said it expects more than 1 million passengers to visit Great Stirrup Cay each year by 2026 across its 15 ships operating Caribbean itineraries.
