Novak Djokovic has cut ties with the Professional Tennis Players Association, the players’ union he co-founded.

“I have ongoing concerns about transparency, governance and the way my voice and image are represented,” said Djokovic, who launched the independent organization with Canadian player Vasek Pospisil in 2021.

In March, the PTPA took legal action against tennis governing bodies including the ATP, WTA, International Tennis Federation and the International Tennis Integrity Agency, accusing them of “systemic abuses, anti-competitive practices and blatant disregard for player welfare.”

However, Djokovic admitted at the time that he did not agree with parts of the lawsuit, and both the ATP and the WTA strongly countered the PTPA’s claims.

And the 24-time Grand Slam champion has now ended his relationship with the union.

He said of X, “After careful consideration, I have decided to completely withdraw from the Professional Tennis Players Association.”

“This decision comes after ongoing concerns about transparency, governance, and how my voice and image are represented.

“I am proud of the vision that Vasek and I shared when founding PTPA: to provide players with a stronger, more independent voice, but it has become clear that my values and approach no longer align with the organization’s current direction.

“I will remain focused on contributing to tennis, my family and the sport in a way that reflects my principles and integrity. I wish the players and those involved all the best, but for me this chapter is now closed.”
