Healthy Oatmeal Smoothie Ingredients
This recipe is great for breakfast, an after-school snack, a balanced on-the-go meal, a hydrating post-workout drink, for weight loss, or for muscle building. Choose higher or lower calorie ingredients depending on your individual needs.
oats – Whole grain rolled oats add thickness and nutrition. You can swap for quick oats or instant oats. For best taste and texture, do not use steel-cut oats.
Want a gluten-free oat smoothie? Look for certified gluten-free oats or substitute with an equal amount of pressed quinoa flakes.
fruit – Almost everything goes here! This is a great way to use up any fresh or frozen fruit you have, and you can mix different fruits together to create fun new flavors.
milk – If you want to make a low-calorie smoothie, use dairy-free almond milk or oat milk. Or try canned coconut milk for a weight gain-friendly drink that tastes like an oatmeal cookie milkshake.
If you choose plant-based milk, your drink may be cholesterol-free.
Yogurt – Try soy yogurt or Greek yogurt, which are the highest in protein. Plain yogurt or vanilla yogurt will also work. You can substitute more milk for yogurt, but the result will be less creamy.
(A great option for a yogurt-free smoothie is to replace all the yogurt with 2/3 cup of ripe mashed avocado.)
Sweetener – Go with someone you like. I like pure maple syrup or coconut sugar. To add a sugar-free smoothie, try using erythritol, monk fruit, or stevia to taste.
If necessary, add more or less sweetener to taste. The amount depends on the type of fruit, yogurt and milk you choose.
Protein powder (optional) – If you want more protein in the morning, mix in a scoop of your favorite flavored or unsweetened protein powder.

How to Make an Oatmeal Smoothie Easy
- If you want a refreshing and cool oat drink, we recommend keeping it cold in the refrigerator or freezer in advance.
- The way to make the creamiest smoothie is to blend the oats in a blender a few times before adding the other ingredients. Or, if you prefer a smoothie with a slightly chewier oat texture, proceed straight to the next step.
- Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until evenly combined and completely smooth. (For those who don’t have a high-speed blender with a tamper, it may be easier to start with unfrozen fruit.)
- Pour into two glasses, carafe or smoothie bowl.
- Garnish with sliced fruit, shredded coconut, chia seeds, mini chocolate chips, raisins or whatever your heart desires.
- Enjoy it right now. Alternatively, cover and refrigerate leftovers for up to 5 days.

Oatmeal Breakfast Smoothie Flavor
Peanut Butter Banana. Use a banana as your fruit of choice and mix in 2 to 4 tablespoons of peanut butter or peanut butter powder.
strawberry. Measure out two cups of chopped frozen strawberries (stems discarded), or for fruit, one cup each of strawberries and peaches or raspberries.
Apple Cinnamon. Mix two cups of peeled and sliced fresh apples. Also add half a teaspoon of ground cinnamon and optionally ginger or allspice.
Blueberry Almond. Use blueberries as the fruit and add 2 to 4 tablespoons of almond butter for a super creamy oat shake. Top with crunchy granola cereal.
Pumpkin Pie. Substitute up to one-third of a cup of yogurt with canned pumpkin puree. Add 4 teaspoons cinnamon and 8 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice.
passionate. Use a mixture of frozen pineapple and sliced mango or papaya. Try making a green smoothie with a handful of spinach or kale, which are rich in magnesium and iron.
Chocolate Mocha. Add one tablespoon of cocoa powder and a fourth teaspoon of instant espresso or coffee granules. Choose chocolate milk instead of regular milk. Or skip the instant coffee with a basic chocolate oatmeal smoothie.

1. To make the thickest, coldest oatmeal smoothie, it is best to refrigerate or freeze the fruit in advance.
2. If you want a creamier texture, place the rolled oats in a blender and blend until smooth. Or, if you want a slightly chewy texture, skip this step.
3. Add fruit, oats, milk, yogurt, sweetener, and optionally protein powder and nut butter to blender. Process on high speed until smooth. (If you don’t have a fast blender using a tamper, it may be easier to use unfrozen fruit.)
4. Pour into glasses, jars or bowls and add toppings as desired.
5. Eat right away, or store leftovers in a covered cup and refrigerate for up to 5 days.
