Palestinian killed as Israeli settlers burn West Bank village

The Palestinian Red Crescent said medics treated a Palestinian villager who was shot in the chest and rushed him to the Rafidah government hospital in the nearby city of Nablus, where his condition was described as critical, according to the Palestinian news agency Wafa. Rashid Seda's body was also taken there.

The IDF said in a statement that troops and border police were dispatched to the village “within minutes” after receiving reports of violence. They fired into the air to disperse the crowd and “pushed out Israeli civilians,” it added. One person was arrested and taken to police for questioning, it added.

The IDF said it had launched a joint investigation with the Shin Bet internal security service and police following what it called a “serious incident.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said in a statement that it “takes this evening's riots very seriously” and promised that “those responsible for these criminal acts will be apprehended and prosecuted.”

“This is an extreme minority that is harming law-abiding settler communities and settlers in general, and is tarnishing Israel’s name and standing in the world, especially at a sensitive and difficult time,” President Isaac Herzog wrote on X.

The United States, Israel's main ally, also issued a statement condemning the attacks on Palestinian civilians, saying they were “unacceptable and must stop.”

“Israeli authorities must take steps to protect all communities from harm, including intervening to stop this violence and holding all perpetrators of this violence accountable,” a National Security Council spokesperson said.
