Patrick Mahomes: Kansas City Chiefs quarterback guaranteed more than $500 million after signing contract extension | NFL News

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has signed the NFL’s first $500 million guaranteed contract.

Mahomes, a three-time Super Bowl winner, has a two-year contract extension until 2033 worth $504.75 million.

The entire amount is guaranteed through contract provisions, and the 30-year-old Mahomes could earn up to $522.25 million through incentives after signing a $477 million initial guaranteed contract in 2020.

The extension begins in 2027 and is worth $64 million per year, making it the highest salary in the NFL and the largest contract in sports history.

Mahomes boasts a 95-31 career record, is 17-4 in the playoffs, averages the highest passing yards in NFL history at 285.2 yards per game, and has won two NFL MVP awards.

But the Chiefs had their first losing season with Mahomes at the helm in 2025. That’s because the team was 6-8 (all losses) before Mahomes suffered an ACL injury in December and missed the final three games of the season.

A contract extension is a vote of confidence in the most successful player in franchise history.

Mahomes currently receives more than $170 million more in guaranteed money than the $330 million contract of his closest competitor, Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen. He’s trying to cement his legacy and win his third Super Bowl in eight seasons as a starting pitcher.
