Liam Dawson was named the Cinch Professional Cricketers’ Association male player of the year, while Scotland’s Kathryn Bryce became the first female player from a country other than English to be named so.
Dawson won the award for averaging 60 with the bat and 25 with left-arm spin in the Vitality County Championship in Hampshire.
The 34-year-old England duo of Joe Root and Gus Atkinson beat Glamorgan batsman Colin Ingram to win the title.
“The other nominees are all outstanding players and I never expected to win this award,” said Dawson, who has taken 71 wickets and scored 1,280 runs across all formats this year.
“I was very surprised but delighted. It’s a real highlight of my career.”
Meanwhile, Bryce backed The Blaze’s winning campaign as the top scorer at the Charlotte Edwards Cup.
She won the PCA award ahead of Hollie Armitage, Paige Scholfield and Nat Sciver-Brunt.
“It’s a huge honor to win this trophy after being voted on by my fellow players,” said Bryce, who has scored 1,650 runs and taken 51 wickets this year.
“I want to continue playing as much cricket as possible in different parts of the world. If I can play even half of this over the next few years, hopefully I can have a good career.”
England and Surrey wicketkeeper-batsman Jamie Smith and South East Stars seamer Ryana MacDonald-Gay were named male and female young players of the year respectively.
Former England and Glamorgan batsman Matthew Maynard received an Outstanding Contribution Award for his work with the Tom Maynard Trust, which closed this summer after 12 years, and completed a walk from John O’Groats to Land’s End, helping the Cricketers’ Trust and Heroes.
James Anderson received a special achievement award after finishing his England career with 704 Test wickets, a record for a non-spinner this summer, while Neil Bainton and Anna Harris received umpire awards.
