In October, people said that people were blistered without proper access to food, rest, shade or veterinarian treatment.
According to PETA, Travel Corporation Brands (Trafalgar and Contiki provides two Egyptian tours), Abercrombie & Kent, Adventureword and Flash Pack are Travel Corporation brand (Trafalgar and Trafalgar and Contiki is two). Airbnb Experience and Toursbylocals did not provide camel experiences on the website.
In 2019, PETA began to investigate the treatment of Giza Camels after being shocked by the complaint. The group said that his investigation discovered a stain from an ancient Egyptian site.
The GUICE said that PETA attempted to cooperate with the Egyptian government on this issue and stopped the campaign in 2020 after promising to prohibit the ride. But a few years later, “the promise is still empty,” PETA said.
The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism did not respond to the request for comment, but the Ministry of Tourism said that in October, the program started the “Animal Welfare at the archaeological site”, which includes vaccine and regular veterinarian nursing. PETA has called for the government to impose a ban on camels and horses near the pyramids, and that more than 46,000 people have sent emails to Egyptian officials to support the ban.
Replace other experiences for the camel rides
Some tour operators have already cameled before PETA’s latest campaign and replaced them with different experiences.
Abercrombie & Kent stopped offering rides in 2023. Jean FawCett spokesman A & K said, “I believe that animals used as tourist attractions should be treated humanally humanly according to transparent and powerful animal welfare standards.”
Knowing that some travelers are more important than the desire to ride a camel, A & K was surprised for a special approach to a special VIP in the Egyptian and Nile, a special approach to some restricted areas such as Pharaoh and Pyramids.
“It’s a much more memorable experience and a much more symbolic photo OP,” said FAWCETT.
The bold journey, the group tour operator, removed the camel at the 2024 Egyptian Adventure Journey. The company has traded an alternative panoramic outlook for a family -owned restaurant and a ride for a meal and shooting pyramids.
“Intrepid does not follow the industrial standards for animal welfare in Intrepid. We have set them.” If the experience does not match our value or does not meet the ethical treatment we expect, we will not hesitate to change it. Riding a camel in Egypt was the right decision. Responsible travel is not always doing what is done, but not doing the right thing. We are here to draw that change. “
Travel animal welfare trend
Giving up a camel in front of the pyramid is the latest example of animal welfare deployed as a microscope as a tour operator is responsible and strives to develop sustainable policies.
In the last decade, many operators have escaped their experiences in harming animals such as riding elephants or swimming with dolphins in Thailand. The destinations of Honduras in April 1, Roatan, are sometimes leading to claims. Some travel agencies have an in -house animal welfare policy that can operate animal -oriented travels by operators who are good at creatures.
Intrepid developed a tool kit in 2020 as an animal interaction and guidelines for seeing animals in the wild. According to the policy, the camel is considered to be a long -established animal, and as in the Moroccan trip, the camel is used for transportation rather than a photographic prop.
Toursbylocals started a similar policy with the help of PETA in 2019. The spokesman initially contacted the field guide to remove a tour that was not appropriate for camels. But after PETA’s actions last fall, Toursbylocals decided to completely remove the tour due to strong evidence of animal abuse.
Lisa Chen of Toursbylocals said that this decision is part of the brand’s goal of balancing traveler’s needs and encouraging the entrepreneurship of guides and managing responsible tourism. She led to education, she said.
“We promote the tour to be the best map of our mission,” she said. Chen added, “It helps to complete education or develop traveler education.”
Chen said that it is the brand’s responsibility to understand that the guide is not a type of product that the company wants to promote even if travelers ask for their activities.
Education is also part of an Egyptian new animal welfare program, and Sherif Fathy, a tourism and relic minister, is also called our evidence of our devotion to protect animal welfare by crossing our archaeological sites when the program begins in October. The program includes the creation of a free training center for education for the camel owners for proper animal management and treatment.
Despite the initiative, PETA says that more work should be done, including complete ban on camels near the pyramid and other tourist destinations.
This big movement far from the camel rides is prioritizing animal welfare, according to the world’s animal protection program, who is in cooperation with organizations around the world to set animal welfare policies, and prevents the sale and promotion of “cruel and prisoners” animal encounters.
Harsh said, “In fact, there is a growing movement of animal -friendly travel and solution -based travel and sustainable travel.
