Gerwyn Price produced a world-class performance to secure a 6-2 win over Gian van Veen on Premier League Darts Night Nine at the AO Arena in Manchester.
Price continued his sublime form throughout the evening of the finals, dominating from start to finish to round off the trio in a 6-2 win.
It marks the Welshman’s second win of the night, adding to his win on Day 2 in Antwerp.
With this win, he moved up to second place in the Premier League with 19 points, surpassing fellow Welshman Jonny Clayton with 19 points. Littler still sits in first place with 21 points.
Surprisingly, the only person to beat Price in the Premier League this year was Littler, and with the reigning world champions out of the way in Manchester, Price came out on top.
It was a really comprehensive performance of the final ‘Iceman’. After finding two massive checkouts of 128 en route to 4-0, he had a solid lead and was able to bowl two more to secure the win.
Despite Van Veen losing the final, it was another good stepping stone as he continued his comeback two weeks after undergoing kidney stone surgery. The Dutchman currently sits in fifth place, one point behind fourth-placed Michael van Gerwen.
“I was very nervous before playing Humphreys, so that win put my mind at ease.” Price said. sky sports.
“I played well against Bunting and Van Veen didn’t play his game in the final. I was happy because you always doubt yourself.
“Sometimes you feel like you can’t miss. I start throwing darts in the right direction and they land on top of the T20 and you start whipping the ‘big fish’.
“Getting two points every week and winning every night is a bonus. I think everyone still has a chance to be in the top four.”
Van Veen and Littler clash – ‘He wasn’t a good loser’
The flashpoint of the night occurred in the third quarterfinal between Van Veen and Luke Littler.
Van Veen started the evening with a fiery last leg 6-5 win over his regular opponents, with drama unfolding in the final leg between the two rivals.
The match reacted angrily as soon as ‘The Nuke’ was seen expressing disappointment at missing the inside on D15 and celebrating the miss as his opponent turned to face the crowd.
The mistake allowed Littler to win a match dart in D7, but as Van Veen moved up to finish the contest in D6, he went inside himself and made a crying gesture.
The world number one came from 4-1 down to 5-5, but he was unable to complete his comeback as anger began to flare.
After the match, Van Veen called Littler’s reaction “disorganized” and said he was “not a good loser”.
Van Veen advanced to the final for the first time since Night Four in Belfast with a 6-3 win over Josh Rock.
Price’s route to the final: 6-2!
Price advanced to the final with a stunning 6-2 win over Stephen Bunting. With an average of 112.91, ‘The Bullet’s’ 107 seems inferior.
The highlight came in the third game when he caught a ‘big fish’ and drew celebrations. He then clattered down all four legs in succession in a sensational finish, his dart landing with great precision into the outer ring.
In the city he always enjoys, Price started his night with a 6-2 comprehensive win over Luke Humphries.
Price was in the zone and it showed as he opened at 167 on the bull and recorded a checkout of 135 on top, throwing just two holds while Humphries was on the gas.
Elsewhere, Rock enjoyed a double delight against Jonny Clayton with back-to-back quarter-final wins over the Welshman.
The momentum of the game continued to shift but he got another big boost with a big ball in D4 after seven weeks without a point as the Northern Irishman went 5-4 up.
meantime, Bunting started the night with an emphatic 6-3 win over Michael van Gerwen. The highlight of the second game was a 161 for the Bullseye to take a 5-0 lead.
The Dutchman fought back with three legs to go on the spin, but Bunting eventually edged past D16 to reach the semi-finals for the third time this Premier League.
