Prosecutors are reviewing a file of evidence relating to a Premier League footballer arrested on suspicion of rape.
A man in his 30s was charged with sexual crimes between 2021 and 2023. The Metropolitan Police have now sent the file to the CPS and the player is being questioned and inquiries are continuing.
The soccer player denies the charges.
A police spokesperson said: “Police are investigating a number of reports of alleged sexual offenses between 2021 and 2023.”
“The full file has been passed on to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and detectives continue to co-operate with prosecutors.
“People who come forward to police continue to receive support from Met officers.”
The player, whose name was not revealed, was first arrested in July 2022 on charges of sexual assault of a woman in her 20s.
While in custody, he was further arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a second woman in April 2021 and again in June of that year.
The Metropolitan Police Agency stated that no further action would be taken in relation to the incident that occurred in June 2021, as the relevant legislation had not come into effect at the time.
In February 2023, police interviewed a man under caution over alleged sexual offenses allegedly committed in Barnet, north London, in February 2022.
This relates to the third complainant and was reported in July 2022, police said.
Executives carefully interviewed Premier League footballers again in November 2024.
The CPS will now decide what to do based on the evidence file provided by the Metropolitan Police. It is not known when a decision will be made.
