In Switzerland, protesters clashed with police while demonstrating against the G7 summit in neighboring France.
Tear gas and water cannon were deployed to disperse large crowds after protesters smashed windows and set cars on fire.
“We need to understand the message, the basic message, to all the countries that oppress us with money and power,” said one protester, disappointed to see the protests turn violent.
The G7 summit begins in Évian-les-Bains on June 15 and will bring together leaders from the UK, France, Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan, the US and the European Union.
