Emma Raducanu recorded another impressive win, beating Sorana Cirstea 6-4 6-2 in the second round at Queen’s.
The British number one received huge cheers as she played in front of a packed Andy Murray Arena to secure her second successive victory in as many turf events.
The win is her first over a top 20 player in a year and means she will face the winner of Harriet Dart and Kamila Rakhimova in the quarter-finals later today.
Raducanu got off to a blistering start, making two breaks in the first three games with a fierce forehand, but the experienced Cirstea fought back and won three games on the bounce to put the pressure back on her opponent.
The 2021 US Open champion committed a costly unforced error to give the Romanian a chance for a third break at 4-5, but fought back to win his second successive match and complete a hard-fought first set that lasted 50 minutes.
She oozed confidence from then on and broke the first game of the second set. A glorious deep forehand return sealed the game, and a second break at 3-1 proved to be the nail in Cirstea’s coffin.
