Rangers Q&A on £16m stock issue, transfer plans, Old Firm fans clash, future Celtic Park ticket allocations, VAR referee summit and more | soccer news

Rangers chairman Andrew Cabena has announced there will be a £16m cash injection to support summer transfers and other work around the club.

The funds will be raised through a new share issue, with Ibrox set to increase adult season ticket prices by 6.5% next season.

“Our ambition is clear: continuous victory and sustainable victory,” he said. “Now that we have been at the club for 10 months, our views on how to achieve our ambitions are much clearer.

“We need to foster a winning culture and continue to prioritize and invest in our men’s first team.

“If we want to continue to improve on the pitch we need to increase the club’s total resources while also moving as many resources as possible to the men’s first team.”

What does this mean for people like Moore?

Sky Sports News We understand the Ibrox club are keen to keep Spurs loanee Mikey Moore beyond this summer.

The 18-year-old has scored six goals and provided two assists in the league this season and said after his man-of-the-match performance against Aberdeen before the international break: “I want to stay here next year if it suits me.”

Director Danny Rohl will be adding to his squad from various locations over the summer and I don’t think the business done in the coming months will be anywhere near the same level as last summer when there were over 25 ins and outs.

Will there be a new sporting director?

Former CEO Patrick Stewart (left) and sports director Kevin Thelwell were fired in November last year.

Cavenagh also confirmed he has no plans to replace former sporting director Kevin Thelwell, with Jim Gillespie officially joining as CEO earlier this month.

meantime, Sky Sports News We understand former Liverpool and Blackburn player Stig Inge Bjornebye, who joined last December as a football consultant and advisor, will remain at the club beyond this summer.

Cavenagh added: “I want our supporters to be able to see themselves at the club, whether on the pitch or in the club offices. I think some of that has been missing over the last few months and years.”

Jim Gillespie has started at Ibrox as Rangers’ new CEO, replacing Patrick Stewart.

“It starts from the top. Over the last four months we have reorganized our management team. Jim (Gillespie) has joined as CEO and Fraser (Thornton) has become managing director. “We believe our current football structure is working well and we have no plans to hire a sporting director.

“Management is committed to becoming a smaller, more nimble, more entrepreneurial business. We want management that’s willing to get their fingernails dirty. We want people fighting over shovels when there’s a hole to dig. We want fewer consulting firms and less bureaucracy.

“A winning culture means returning to Rangers’ historical DNA and standards. I have tried to spend time with many supporters, former players and staff and their input has been invaluable. Across the club we must continue to work with these individuals, informally as thought leaders and advisors, and formally as ambassadors and part of the staff. This link to the past must be strengthened.”

What are the away crowds like for Old Firm games?

Cavenagh also addressed the clashes between fans following the Scottish Cup Old Firm tie at Ibrox this month, reiterating that the club welcomes an independent review commissioned by the Scottish FA.

Sky Sports News It is understood talks have already taken place between the club and Police Scotland to secure the attendance of away fans at the final league meeting later this season.

Police had to keep Rangers and Celtic fans apart after they rushed onto the Ibrox stadium.

He said: “We continue to condemn the disorder, the damage to property and especially those who denigrated the 66 souls who lost their lives in the Ibrox tragedy. “We fully support the independent review and will continue to represent the club and its supporters while working with all relevant stakeholders.”

Will clubs meet to discuss VAR?

Rangers have also proposed a meeting of all Scottish Premier League clubs to discuss refereeing standards.

With first-class sides keen to cooperate on the issue, it is believed this could happen in the coming weeks.

while Sky Sports News It is understood Rangers would accept offers to pay more to fund full-time referees or provide more cameras for games that are not live, but they are also likely to consider withdrawing funding altogether if they feel the technology is not performing to the level required.
