In the first week of the Meta Monopoly Law Trial, a new revelation of a company, known as Facebook, approached the competition threats raised by Instagram in the early 2010s.
The US government criticizes Meta for violating competition laws by acquiring companies such as Instagram and Whatsapp, which threaten Facebook monopoly. If the lawyer of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) succeeds, the government can sell the Instagram and Whatsapp to force the meta to stop the business.
As part of the test, FTC shared convincing evidence to show that Facebook is very well aware of the risks created for business as the Facebook is gaining popularity. In a document containing internal emails in Facebook, Facebook Execs discusses how much you need to pay for the app if you have a Facebook with worrying about the growth of Instagram and obtained Facebook.
The company’s EXECS also discusses other strategies to limit the growth of Instagram, such as copying functions, launching their own apps, purchasing an app, and no longer adding new features while working on their own products.
According to the government’s claim, Facebook’s strategy to buy or bury competition is on display in this dialogue. In addition to showing what the company is thinking about the company’s competition at the time, the message shows META a cuttery strategy that can be today’s social networking giant.
Some of the highlights of this message are:
Mark Zuckerberg and others are worried about the rapid growth of Instagram
- “Instagram seems to be growing rapidly. There are up to 2m users and 30k photos up every day in 4 months. It’s a lot of work. We need to track this closely. Also, the next big push of Dropbox will be in the photo sharing.” -Mark Zuckerberg, February 2011
- “If Instagram continues to kick your butt or buy Google, you can easily add services that copy our work for the next few years. If people’s photos increase, we have a real problem now, now we’ll grow very fast. At the current speed, we literally lead to a more difficult position that can be doubled in our growth every two months we waste every two months. ” -Mark Zuckerberg, September 2011
- “The photo team is taking off from Instagram’s simple photo sharing apps (and even our own apps have increased mobile uploads to 17.7m, and the photo team focuses almost exclusively when the mobile upload has increased to 17.7m. I have seen it to verify the supported strategy and to provide a strategy that provides a stand -alone lawsuit..-CHRIS COX, the chief product manager in February 2011
- “One of the trends is that many people are using Instagram every day, including non -technical high school friends to FB employees. They upload some of the photos to the FB. This is confident that we will have great holes for us and we will completely solve our work with our platform or social dynamics.” -Mark Zuckerberg, February 2012
Facebook stops development and growth in consideration of Instagram acquisition.
- “I wonder if I need to buy an Instagram. There are two things we don’t do right now even if it costs 500m. It’s a really good camera and a photo -centered sharing network.” -Mark Zuckerberg, February 2012
- “Our initial papers are wrong and I think they are very likely to be right. What people want to take the best picture rather than posting on the FB. We would like to consider paying a lot of money for this.” -Mark Zuckerberg, February 2012
- “In fact, if we are a path, Pinterest, Instagram, Evernote, and others are doing great things right now (1) If we can restructure the team in a way where we can switch to the team to maintain and run their products, we think that people take care of the great things and we are more than four or more. I think we can work and we can take fourth place -Samuel W. Lessin, February 2012 Mark Zuckerberg.
- “What we need to do is to continue to operate the product, add more features, and to focus on future development of the product, including building our camera functions. If we do not kill the product, we will not be able to disrupt us and make a hole in a market that can be filled by others, but future development will head to core products.” -Mark Zuckerberg, February 2012
- “One way to see this is that it’s time for us to actually buy it. Even if some new competitors cause SIC, you can integrate mechanics before you get closer to scale if you buy Instagram, Path, Foursquare, etc. -Mark Zuckerberg, February 2012
