The 5 smartest things to do when shopping for thisJune

1. Photo shooting service (average discount rate: 48% discount)

Gift a meaningful photo to a special graduate or the man who raised you. Photo gifts are highly customizable, thoughtful and will blow your mind. Photography companies are also joining in the celebration with sweet discounts to make the sentimental choice affordable. (Pro tip: Even if you don’t buy a gift this month, you can use our Graduation and Father’s Day codes to print photos. We can’t tell you!)

Find great deals on the following photography service brands:

  • Shutterfly
  • Vistaprint
  • snap fish
  • CVS
  • minted

2. Health and Beauty (Average discount rate: 30% discount)

Protect your skin this summer with the right health and beauty practices. Thankfully, beauty retailers have huge summer sales around this time of year, making it easy to keep your SPF high and sun damage low. It’s also the perfect excuse to switch up your look for the new season by experimenting with fun, vibrant colors of your favorite makeup products.

Shop our favorite health and beauty brands:

  • Tart Cosmetics
  • Ulta
  • L’Occitane
  • alloy
  • mac cosmetics

3. Clothing (average discount rate: 21% discount)

Currently, we don’t have summer clothing listed yet (see the “What Not to Shop” section below), but spring styles are hitting clearance shelves! As temperatures rise and spring and summer weather overlap, now is the time to stock up on flowers and pastels. Recycle your favorite clothes into summer wardrobe essentials and save the rest for next year.

Here are some clothing retailers we recommend:

  • adidas
  • puma
  • levis
  • pretty little thing
  • old navy

4. Home & Garden (Average discount rate: 18% discount)

Missed the Memorial Day Sale? Don’t sweat! Many house and garden sales kick off over the long weekend and continue until June. That means there’s still time to get your home improvement essentials at great prices. Keep these savings in mind when shopping for Father’s Day, especially if your dad loves tools or weekend DIY projects.

Shop at low prices from trusted brands.

  • walmart
  • ace hardware
  • Bed Bath & Beyond
  • home depot
  • at home

5. Toys (average discount rate: 14% discount)

Keep an eye out for retailers running toy deals this month. Aside from post-holiday clearance, this is one of the best times to shop for toys. If you want to buy holiday gifts all year round, now is the perfect time to do so. It never hurts to get a little head start, and your future self will thank you when prices rise later this winter.

Here are some retailers that often have great toy deals:

  • target
  • Macy’s
  • Lego
  • Academy Sports + Outdoor
  • Amazon

5 things not to shop in June

1. Patio furniture

Demand for patio furniture, grills and smokers surges this time of year, keeping prices high. Wait until August or September to update your outdoor oasis. There’s still plenty of great weather left to enjoy your new setup, and the wind will feel even better knowing you’ve scored well.

2. Large home appliances

Holiday weekends are often the best time to get great deals on large appliances. Unfortunately, this does not apply to Father’s Day. The next dates to see big savings on appliances are July 4th and Labor Day. If you’re desperate to upgrade before then, look for a good cash-back deal that will get you at least some cash back on your big investment.

3. Summer clothing

As mentioned above, it’s spring clothing that’s currently on clearance shelves, making way for summer full-price displays. Keep an eye out for your favorite styles and remember to check back in late July or early August when cool-weather styles start taking over the main displays.

4. School/office supplies

Don’t bother trying to get an early start on school supplies. These deals won’t begin until August, or at the earliest, until the end of July. Whether you’re a parent looking to help your child succeed, a professional looking for discounts on office supplies, or both, wait until the back-to-school craze has fully kicked in to get the best deals.

5. Ssunglasses

Sunglasses are another summer essential that won’t go on sale at the start of the season. I know it’s frustrating, but why not wear your old shoes for a few more months and then upgrade in September when prices plummet? If you can’t wait, buy cheap temporary shoes at a convenience store and wait until the major brands go on sale.
