Republic of Ireland’s potential Euro 2028 fixtures, dates and potential routes for the UK and Republic of Ireland tournaments | soccer news

As the Euro 2028 schedule begins, we take a look at the Republic of Ireland’s potential fixtures, dates and where they will play if they qualify for the tournament.

The Euro 2028 schedule has been confirmed with Wales likely to play in the tournament’s opener at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, while England could play their first match at the Etihad Stadium.

The competition begins on June 9 and concludes with the final at Wembley on July 9 at nine stadiums in England, Wales, Scotland and the Republic of Ireland, with a total of 24 teams participating and playing a total of 51 matches.

The four host nations do not automatically qualify for Euro 2028, but direct qualification means they will play all group matches in front of their own fans, giving Wales the chance to play in the opening match.

But should they qualify, here’s the Republic of Ireland’s schedule and potential path through the tournament…

How does a host country qualify?

All four countries will go through qualifying, with two places automatically reserved for the higher-ranked host country that did not make the field.

If at least two of England, Scotland, Wales and the Republic of Ireland qualify, all four countries will participate in the tournament.

Depending on the number of spots used by the host country, the number of final tournament spots determined through the playoffs can vary between two and four in one of three scenarios:

Eligible slots reserved for both hosts used: Eight teams will compete in two routes for two final tournament spots: a single semi-final and a final.

1 eligible slot reserved for hosts used: Twelve teams will compete in three routes for three final tournament spots, including a single semifinal and final.

There are no eligible slots reserved for the used host. Eight teams will play four home and away playoff games, with the winners advancing to the final tournament.
