Have you ever bought something at Walmart and it didn’t work out? It happens to all of us! No matter what you buy, Walmart makes it easy to return or exchange if you’re not 100% satisfied, and you don’t have to go through the trouble of doing so.

Walmart offers slightly different return procedures when you purchase from third-party sellers on their site, including shorter return periods and additional return fees. Understand the key differences for Walmart Marketplace returns so you can shop with confidence across the site.

As you probably already know, here’s everything you need to know about Walmart returns.

Official Walmart Return Policy

Almost all items purchased directly from Walmart are eligible for return. With a few exceptions, Walmart will provide customers with 90 days You’ll need to decide whether to return or exchange the item, with or without a receipt, or if you should return it. Even during the holiday season, you may have a little more leeway.

For items purchased online, the return period typically begins on the date the item was delivered. These items can be returned by mail (free) or in person at your nearest Walmart store.

Walmart Holiday Guarantee

Eligible items purchased from October 1 through December 31 have an extended return period through January 31, including electronics. Walmart’s extended holiday return coverage does not apply to AppleCare, Walmart Protection Plans, wireless phones, jewelry, major appliances, and some premium and holiday items.

Walmart Fresh Guarantee

In 2013, Walmart launched its 100% Guarantee on fresh fruits and vegetables, and has since updated it to include produce, fresh flowers, meats, bakery, deli, dairy, and frozen foods. If you’re not satisfied with any of these items after purchasing them, return your receipt for a full refund. And you don’t have to bring most of these items back to the store.

Walmart Exchange Only Policy

Some items cannot be returned, but can be exchanged for the same or similar item. Within 90 days. This includes certain items that have been opened or used, such as defective but unused funeral goods (yes, Walmart sells caskets and coffins!) and durable medical equipment such as airbeds and air mattresses, crutches, slings, walkers, and mobility scooters.

Walmart Return/Exchange Policy Exceptions

For major appliance returns, a receipt is required for a full refund within 2 days of receipt. However, unopened, uninstalled, and undamaged major appliances may be returned in their original factory-sealed packaging for up to 30 days after delivery.

Some other items are non-refundable. or Exchange, no matter what. This includes but is not limited to certain digital products or services such as firearms and ammunition, gas-powered recreational vehicles, used or fitted tires, SIM cards, gift cards, and software downloads.

Walmart makes it easy to return items digitally, by mail or in-store, with several options. However, it can take up to three weeks to complete a Walmart return by mail, so it may not be the preferred method if you want your money back quickly.

Regardless of where you make your purchase, Walmart encourages customers to initiate the return process in the Walmart app for the fastest and easiest experience.

Walmart Returns by Mail

  • Log in to your Walmart account and click on your initials in the upper right corner.
  • Select “Account”.
  • Find the unwanted item and click “Start Return”.
  • Please select a reason why you do not want to keep the item.
  • Depending on the item, you may be given the option to request a refund or replacement. Make your selection and click “Continue.”
  • Select the “Return by Mail” option and click “Continue.”
  • After printing the return label, take the package to your nearest FedEx or USPS location.

There are four ways to return an item. When you initiate a return, you will be presented with the options available for the item.

Walmart store returns

When returning directly from a store, you don’t have to worry about repackaging. Just bring your return email or receipt.

Walmart Mobile Express Returns

Walmart has been offering Mobile Express Returns since 2017. Here’s how it works:

  • Download the Walmart app and log in to your account.
  • Please review your order and select the items you wish to return.
  • Select “Return to Store” to receive a return barcode.
  • Review and submit your refund summary.
  • You will receive a confirmation email asking you to bring this documentation to Walmart along with the items you wish to return.

Don’t have an app or Walmart account? Then go the old-fashioned way and bring your items and receipt to your local Walmart’s customer service desk. Or, go to Walmart.com/StartReturn and select whether you purchased the item in-store or online.

Walmart Curbside Returns

You can return items from your vehicle via curbside returns. Walmart began rolling out this option in October 2022. There is no dedicated page for curbside returns, but the process is the same as the existing curbside pickup process.

  • Begin your Walmart online return as you normally would, select the store you’d like to return to, and follow the directions provided.
  • Park in the Walmart curbside pickup area.
  • A representative will come to your vehicle to collect and process your return.

Home Pickup Service for Walmart+ Members

Walmart+ members have this exclusive option for returns in 2022. When you initiate an eligible return through the app, Walmart+ members can schedule a return to be picked up at home. No need to box or label. Just hand your return to the delivery driver and Walmart handles the rest.

When to Expect a Walmart Refund

As long as you have a receipt, you will receive a refund within the following dates: 10 business daysIt depends on how you paid. If you lose your receipt, use Walmart’s receipt lookup tool.

  • If you paid by cash or check, you will receive a refund in cash immediately upon return to the store.
  • If you paid with a debit or credit card, your card will be refunded within 7-10 business days. Alternatively, you can receive a gift card immediately.
  • If you paid with a Walmart Gift Card or EBT card, your refund will be credited to your card within 3 hours.

But if you need to return it to Walmart without With your receipt, our Customer Service team can track your online and in-store purchases made with your debit or credit card and issue a refund to your card within 10 business days.

If you did not purchase with a credit or debit card and If you do not have a receipt, you must present a valid government-issued photo ID to authorize the return of the item in store. As long as the verification process allows, you can exchange the item, receive a cash refund (if the purchase value is less than $10), or receive a refund in the form of a Walmart gift card (if the purchase value is $10 or more).

Walmart Marketplace Return Policy

Items purchased through Walmart Marketplace are sold by third-party sellers and are not shipped directly from Walmart. If you are not sure whether your order was fulfilled by a Walmart or Marketplace seller, look for the part on the shipping label that says “Sold and Shipped.” The return address listed there is the seller’s contact information.

Most Marketplace items are returnable. Within 30 daysAnd you’ll follow the same process described above for returning standard Walmart purchases. However, if you’re buying electronics or luxury items from Walmart Marketplace sellers, the process is a little different. (Note that “luxury items” can include new and used clothing, shoes, accessories, jewelry and watches, art, collectibles, and more for $300 or more.)

To return these Premium Marketplace items, please follow these steps to avoid having your refund rejected:

  • Start your return online Within 14 days Receiving the goods.
  • Take photos of the items you are returning and keep them for your records in case you need them.
  • If you purchase clothing sold as new, it must be unworn and have original tags and labels still attached. Damaged items will be refused refund, and worn or altered jewelry or watches may be subject to a restocking fee of up to 20% of the purchase price.
  • Please carefully repackage the item in its original box and be sure to include all documentation, warranties, grades, certificates of authenticity, appraisals, etc.
  • Attach a shipping label to the package provided by Walmart or Marketplace sellers.

If you are actually returning an item, the Marketplace seller may have additional instructions or charge a return shipping fee. Some items can be returned at Walmart stores, so you may not have to worry about shipping.

To learn more about an individual seller’s return policy, log in to Walmart.com, go to your account page, find the order in question, and click “View Details” next to the order number. You’ll be able to view the seller’s information and even contact the seller directly if you have any questions.

Once a return is received by the Marketplace seller, a refund will be processed to the original payment method. Within 2 business days.

Things to Consider Before Returning to Walmart

Any items you wish to return to Walmart must be in new condition (unless they arrive damaged, of course) and in the original manufacturer’s packaging. Walmart requires that damaged items purchased in-store be brought back to the store with your receipt, while damaged items purchased online must be returned by mail.

Finally, if you return a gift, you can exchange it for something else, get a refund for the value in the form of a gift card, or you can credit the cost to the original payment method of the gift giver, which seems like a very strange and rude but somewhat generous gesture… but if you choose to do so, more power to you!
