Richard Wigglesworth has been appointed as Steve Borthwick’s No 2 in England’s final coaching squad for the upcoming autumn internationals.
Wigglesworth’s duties in overseeing the attack expanded to include devising overall game plans for matches against New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and Japan.
Felix Jones will continue working remotely next month after unexpectedly resigning from his position as defensive coach last August.
Jones has signed a contract with a 12-month notice period and details about his future are likely to be provided on Wednesday when Borthwick names his squad for the autumn.
Oyonnax Director of Rugby Joe El Abd took charge of the defense and continued his career with the French club until the end of the season.
“Richard’s deep knowledge of the game and excellent tactical understanding means he has become a key figure in our coaching team,” Borthwick said.
“He shares our emotional commitment to England rugby and we are confident he will play a key role in driving the standards of this England team.”
Wigglesworth now holds the title of senior assistant coach, joining El-Abd, Tom Harrison, Kevin Sinfield and Andrew Strawbridge to complete Borthwick’s backroom staff ahead of the opener against the All Blacks on November 2.
