A season of thrilling rematches begins sky sports This weekend features doubleheaders Rafael Espinoza vs. Robeisy Ramirez and Emanuel Navarrete vs. Oscar Valdez.
Later this month, Tyson Fury is set to fight Oleksandr Jusik for the unified world heavyweight championship for the second time.
Ramirez will be competing in the first of a world championship rematch when he defeated Mexico’s Rafael Espinoza for the WBO featherweight world title held by the Cuban.
A year ago, the unheralded Espinoza upset Ramirez in one of the best fights of 2023, and the Cuban believes the second fight will be just as fierce.
“You can expect war,” Ramirez said. sky sports. “We all know how Mexican fighters are, they never give up.
“The reality is that I wasn’t the best version of myself and I was still able to put on a great show, so the second fight will be better.”
This isn’t the first time Ramirez has rallied from a loss. The two-time Olympic gold medalist lost to Adan Gonzalez in his professional debut, but got revenge a year later when he won the rematch.
He hopes to repeat that form this weekend.
“I try not to go in there with any anger towards the fighter. I go in there focused on my job. I’ve always characterized myself as falling down and getting up,” he said. “I will be champion again.
“I will get back to where I belong.”
In the first fight, Ramirez dropped Espinoza in the fifth round, but was knocked down himself in the final round as Espinoza won a majority decision.
“I know he came to win, but I didn’t see myself losing. In the last round, he didn’t land a punch that put me in a bad position. I went down. If you look at the replays, I came down because I was tired.” Ramirez argued.
“I didn’t see myself as a loser.”
A win would set up an exciting fight with another champion like Nick Ball or Angelo Leo in 2025.
“I have no problem fighting any of them. It’s one of the things I’ve always had in mind in my career and one of the things I need to do in my career,” he declared.
“Now I have to get the title back and I’m ready to unite with any champion out there.”
