Royal Caribbean Group plans to open a Royal Beach Club on the South Pacific archipelago of Vanuatu, CEO Jason Liberty said Tuesday during the company’s third-quarter earnings call.
In 2019, Royal Caribbean revealed plans to build a Perfect Day venue on Lelepa, a Vanuatua island off the northwest coast of Efate Island. It’s about 1,000 miles east of Australia.
Jay Schneider, Royal Caribbean’s chief product innovation officer, told Travel Weekly earlier this year that Royal is committed to developing the Vanuatu destination “in some way, shape, or form” but that it may not be the perfect one-day experience.
In its earnings call Tuesday, Liberty did not provide specifics or a timeline for the Vanuatu destination. He described how the company is growing its portfolio of destinations with the recently announced Perfect Day Mexico, mentioning the establishment of a Royal Beach Club there.
“We are opening a Royal Beach Club in Nassau and one in Cozumel as well as Vanuatu in the South Pacific,” Liberty said. He called the Royal Beach Club and Perfect Day developments “value drivers for shareholders” that would improve returns.
Royal Caribbean announced on October 9 that it would build a Perfect Day destination in Mexico. Royal Caribbean Group has acquired the Costa Maya port and surrounding land for $292 million. The sale is expected to be completed in the first half of 2025. Perfect Day Mexico is scheduled to be completed in 2027.
Perfect Day Mexico will help Royal Caribbean Group grow in the Gulf Coast region, including Texas. Liberty said it has similar interest in cruise travel, but has a similar sized market as Florida, but only half the Florida penetration. Royal Caribbean opened a cruise terminal in Galveston three years ago.
