
EPAThe Australian government has heard of Moscow that one of the citizens of Russian prisoners is still alive.
Oscar Jenkins, a 32 -year -old teacher, was arrested last year in a fight against Ukraine.
“The Australian government has been confirmed by Russia, which Oscar Jenkins is alive and detained,” Foreign Minister Penny Wen said in a Wednesday statement.
Previously, there were reports that Zenkins was killed in captivity, and the Australian government quoted “serious concern” of his welfare.
WONG’s statement added, “We still have serious concern as Jenkins as a prisoner of war.”
Russia also relieved him and repeated Australia’s position that the Russian Federation was obliged to deal with all war prisoners in accordance with the international humanitarian law.
War prisoners are protected from all violence or intimidation by the Geneva Convention.
Previously, Prime Minister Anthony Albanes said the government was “urgently looking for” the government confirmed that Zenkins is alive.
Australian Ambassador to Ukraine said the Australian broadcaster said it was “good news,” but asked Moscow to provide “video evidence” of his well -being.
Jenkins is thought to be the first Australian who lived as a prisoner of war while fighting Ukraine.
In December last year, a video appeared in which Jenkins tied his hands, hit his face, and questioned the Russian army.
He explains that he is a teacher and a soldier in Australia and Ukraine.
