Russia launched a ballistic missile attack on the Ukrainian capital Kiev, killing one person and wounding at least 14, officials said.
Several areas in the region were damaged overnight. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called the attack “one of the most massive ballistic attacks on Kiev” since Russia’s full-scale invasion began.
The Ukrainian military said its air defenses shot down 18 of 41 missiles. The system also intercepted 108 drones.
Meanwhile, Ukraine continued its own attacks on Russian sites. The governor of the southwestern Stavropol region said a drone strike had started a fire at an industrial complex.
The latest attack on Kiev involved 125 drones and various Russian weapons systems, including Iskander and hypersonic Zircon missiles, the Ukrainian Air Force said.
On Sunday, Kiev Mayor Vitaly Klitschko said the latest attacks had damaged both residential and non-residential buildings, including supermarkets and dormitories.
Firefighters are battling blazes in two warehouses.
In a message to Telegram, Prime Minister Zelensky said that last week Russia “used about 1,450 attack drones, more than 1,640 guided bombs and 99 missiles of different types against Ukraine.”
The strike comes after Ukraine sent drones to destroy two warehouses owned by Wildberries, Russia’s largest online retailer, killing eight people and starting a massive fire.
