Russian soldiers have told the BBC that they witnessed fellow troops being executed on orders from their commanders during the war in Ukraine.

One of the men tasked with identifying and tallying the death toll provided a detailed list showing that he was the only survivor of the 79 men mobilized with him. He is said to have been tortured and urinated on because he refused to go to the front lines. Those who refused, he said, would be electrocuted, starved and caught in a meat storm unarmed.
