Ryan Garcia has announced that he will defend his WBC welterweight title against Conor Benn in a blockbuster bout on September 12 in Las Vegas.
Talk about Jimmy Fallon tonight show On Monday, Garcia said his next opponent would be “from the other side,” drawing a puzzled look from Fallon, who wondered aloud if that opponent was an alien from a UFO.
“No, he’s from across the pond. I’ll call him Conor Benn,” Garcia said. “He talks a lot.”
Garcia recalled an anecdote about Ben grabbing him at an awards ceremony two years ago:
“I’m going to do something really bad to this guy, and we’re going to send him back to England for tea.”
Garcia, 27, won the belt in February by defeating Mario Barrios in a unanimous decision victory after knocking down his fighter in the first round.
Benn is set to return to the ring after back-to-back main event matches against Chris Eubank Jnr at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Their first clash took place in 2025 before Benn got revenge in a rematch.
Benn, 25-1 (14 KO), returned to defeat former 140lbs champion Regis Prograis by unanimous decision on April 26.
