Formula 1’s Americas tripleheader concluded with the Sao Paulo Grand Prix at Interlagos. That’s because the sprint format offers Lando Norris a vital opportunity to gain more ground against world championship leader Max Verstappen.
McLaren’s Norris reignited his championship hopes by coming within 47 points of Verstappen in a thrilling and controversial Mexico City Grand Prix. The Red Bull driver was penalized twice for sending his title rival off track twice.
With only four rounds left in the season, Norris will need to move on, but he has two opportunities to do so in Brazil. Interlagos retains its status as the only circuit to have hosted a sprint every season since the format was introduced in 2021.
With plenty of overtaking opportunities available, thrilling wheel-to-wheel racing is almost guaranteed, the circuit remains the perfect sprint venue.
The battle between Verstappen and Norris is not the only storyline to follow, with Ferrari’s back-to-back wins taking the Italian team to within 29 points of McLaren at the top of the manufacturers’ standings.
This format means competitive action begins on Friday, with sprint qualifying taking place after just one practice session, followed by sprint and grand prix qualifying on Saturday, ahead of full racing on Sunday. It’s all live. Sky Sports F1.
