Scottie Scheffler joins Tiger Woods in history by winning PGA Tour Player of the Year award for fourth consecutive year | golf news

Scottie Scheffler drew another comparison Monday, joining Tiger Woods as the only players to win at least four consecutive PGA Tour Player of the Year awards.

Scheffler made an easy case to win another Jack Nicklaus Award. His tour-leading six wins were twice as many as anyone else’s and he was on the cusp of a career Grand Slam, including two majors: the PGA Championship and the British Open.

He is the first player since Woods in 2000 to lead the PGA Tour with the lowest score in each of the four rounds, and ended an amazing season by finishing in the top 10 in 15 consecutive events.

Scheffler birdied the 17th hole in the final round of the BMW Championship.

“What I’m most proud of over the years is consistency,” Scheffler said.

“It’s not that easy to be in the top 10 every week.

“This is a very difficult task and something I am very proud of. I am preparing as much as I need to to bring the necessary intensity to this tournament and perform well every week.”

Scheffler was joined on the ballot by Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood and Ben Griffin. The award is voted on by players, but the PGA Tour did not disclose the percentage of votes Scheffler received or the number of players who voted.

The Sky Sports Golf team reflects on another dominant display from Scheffler at The Open.

Woods has won this award 11 times, winning it 5 times in a row from 1999 to 2003.

McIlroy has had a big year in his own right. A Masters playoff victory in the final game of a career Grand Slam capped a year better than the green jacket he’s been pursuing for 15 years. He also added titles at Pebble Beach and The Players Championship.

But Scheffler has been putting on a masterclass in consistency since earning his first PGA Tour win in 2022.

Scheffler, who has 19 wins in his last 80 events on the PGA Tour, not including gold at last year’s Paris Olympics, has finished in the top three in just over 46% of his PGA Tour starts.

This season alone, Scheffler has led the PGA Tour in 17 statistics, including tee-to-green accuracy, how often he follows up a bogey with a birdie or better (36%) and official earnings (highest this year at $27 million).

And he effectively gave McIlroy and everyone else a head start. Scheffler cut off her right hand last Christmas while using a wine glass to cut ravioli.

He missed nearly two months and didn’t really find his groove until a week before the Masters, when he finished runner-up in Houston.

This started a remarkable run that saw Scheffler finish no better than a tie for eighth for the rest of the year. He has played no round over par in his last six PGA Tour events, and has streaked 21 straight rounds in the 60s.

He also won the CJ Cup Byron Nelson in his hometown of Dallas with a PGA Tour record 72-hole score of 253 and an eight-stroke victory.

Neither of his two major titles were particularly close. He won the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow by five strokes and the British Open at Royal Portrush by four strokes.

In all four majors (he also won the Masters in 2022 and 2024), he was at least four strokes ahead going into the final hole.

“I’m not very picky. As long as I’m holding the trophy at the end, it doesn’t really matter,” Scheffler said with a laugh.

Aldrich Potgieter was named PGA Tour Rookie of the Year. Although he was one of five rookies to win this year, the South African was the only player to win a tournament that gave him all of his FedEx Cup points and qualified for the postseason.
