Shadasia Green was treated for a brain hemorrhage following her loss to Lani Daniels in New York.
Green was boxing Daniels, a former heavyweight titlist, for the unified IBF and WBO super middleweight championships on the undercard of Alicia Baumgardner and Bomi Shin’s clash at the Madison Square Garden Theater in New York.
At the start of the ninth round, Daniels fired a series of shots, and the referee pulled Green down and he was taken out of the ring on a stretcher.
Green posted on his SNS, “I collapsed due to cerebral hemorrhage.
“But I am in the intensive care unit to heal. I will be back to 100% solve my problem.”
Green became a unified world champion last year with an upset loss to Great Britain’s Savannah Marshall, making her a strong opponent for multi-weight champion American star Claressa Shields.
“Thank you to those who showed great concern,” Green added, “and even to those who noticed something was wrong during the fight.”
“Thank you MVP (Most Valuable Promotions) and Nakisa (Bidarian, her promoter) for being by my side at the hospital.”
Most Valuable Promotions also said: “MVP is working closely with Shadasia and her family. Overall, we would like to thank the New York State Athletic Commission, Madison Square Garden and their hospitals for their leadership and care.”
