Shein App returns to India via Reliance Deal

Shein, a Chinese fast fashion retailer, started in India for almost five years after being banned in the diplomatic tension between New Delhi and Beijing.

The new Shein India Fast Fashion App, developed and launched by RELIANCE Retail of billionaire MUKESH AMBANI, has made a big profit as one of Asia’s largest retail market. The revival of this app is provided under strict conditions that completely control operations and data.

According to the recently released partnership structure by the Indian Commerce Department, Shein operates purely as a technical partner, and reliance maintains the entire ownership of the platform through its subsidiaries. This contract must store all customer data in India and shein has no access.

“OG is back.” The app greets users. Shein first offers delivery in some cities, including New Delhi and Mumbai. The product includes 350 rupees ($ 4) of dresses, including all items designed and manufactured by local manufacturers.

The contract is a rare exception to India’s ban on China apps that have influenced more than 300 platforms since 2020. To ensure approval, Shein agreed to unprecedented supervision measures, including regular security audits of cyber security companies approved by the government.

Piyush Goyal, Minister of Commerce, said the recent approval process is related to the extensive screening of various ministries, including IT and the Ministry of Home Affairs. This contract aims to increase the textile manufacturing sector in India while maintaining strict data sovereignty.

For reliance, partnership will be free from the traditional strategy of integrating the brand into the flagship AJIO FASHION app.
