Solheim Cup – Captain’s Column by Anna Nordqvist: Qualifiers as European teams prepare to face Team USA | golf news

There are less than 100 days left until the Solheim Cup in the Netherlands, and only two months until team selection. This is absolutely ridiculous!

We’ll be here before we know it, but it’s great to see all the work we’ve been doing behind the scenes starting to come together. Everyone is so excited and excited to be involved with the trip and everything going on.

I met Suzann Pettersen at the US Women’s Open last week and was able to get some thoughts and ideas through her based on her knowledge as Europe captain for 2023 and 2024.

My vice-captain, Anne van Dam, lives in Los Angeles and came out to catch up with some of the girls playing at Riviera Country Club, so it was great to be able to pick each other’s brains!

Anne and I will be taking about a dozen players to a team practice at Bernardus Golf (host of this year’s Solheim Cup) in mid-July, so details on that will be finalized in the coming weeks.

Take a look back at European captain Anna Nordqvist’s best shots from previous Solheim Cup appearances.

I have always believed that rankings have a lot to do with team selection, so I try to encourage and support all players who are currently trying their best to make the team.

Helen Briem moved to within a point of Chiara Tamburlini to claim one of the automatic qualifying spots on the European Solheim Cup points list with a big win at the Jabra Ladies Open de France on the Ladies European Tour two weeks ago. So, the two will have a fierce battle for that spot.

Helen Briem claimed the second LET win of her career with a seven-shot victory at the Open de France.

Celine Boutier was in good form on the LPGA Tour, having just won the ShopRite LPGA. And Maja Stark and Charley Hull had an incredible week at the US Women’s Open!

This week the LPGA Tour is having a team event in Michigan with the Dow Championship, and it’s great to see so many European girls teaming up together.

Maja partners with her good friend Linn Grant, Julia Lopez Ramirez plays with Mimi Rhodes, Pauline Roussin-Bouchard plays with Manon De Roey, Helen plays with Nastasia Nadaud, and Nanna Koerstz Madsen plays with Celine Boutier.

I’m looking forward to continuing to follow everyone’s journey, with three more majors remaining – the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, Evian Championship and AIG Women’s Open – to close out the qualifying period.

That way we can be fully prepared by September and make sure everyone is on the same page!

Anna Nordqvist’s column is presented live on Sky Sports from 11 to 13 September by the Ladies European Tour ahead of the Solheim Cup. Access or stream Sky Sports with no contract.
