South Africa’s 10-match winning streak ended with a 93-run loss to Pakistan in the series opener in Lahore.

The Proteas’ string of wins culminated in a win over Australia in the World Test Championship final at Lord’s this summer.

The longest winning streak in men’s Tests is 16. Australia has won it twice in a row, from October 1999 to February 2021 and again from December 2005 to January 2028.

In 1984, the West Indies won 11 matches against either England or Australia, while South Africa finished fourth with 10 wins on the trot.

South Africa’s defeat ended their 10-Test winning streak and secured them the World Test Championship title.

The Proteas started the fourth day at 51-2 chasing 277 and were bundled out for 183 with spinner Noman Ali (4-79) and left-arm pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi (4-33) sharing eight wickets.

Dewald Brevis top-scored for South Africa with 54 run-a-balls, opener Ryan Rickelton had 45 but the next best returner was Kyle Verreynne’s 19.

The Test was the first match between the two sides in the 2025-27 World Test Championship cycle.

Pakistan are currently ranked second in the Caribbean, behind Australia, who beat West Indies 3-0 in June and July.

England currently sit fifth in the table after two wins, two losses and a draw at home to India, with their next match being The Ashes in Australia starting in Perth on November 21.

The second and final Test between Pakistan and South Africa is scheduled to be played in Rawalpindi on October 20 before which the countries will play three T20 internationals and as many one-day internationals.
