South Africa’s CapeNature Introduces ‘Slow Hiking’ Options: Travel Weekly

CapeNature has launched the Damara Trail in De Mond Nature Reserve near Arniston in South Africa’s Western Cape. This experience has been designated as South Africa’s first “slow hiking” experience and invites visitors to enjoy the environment at a leisurely pace.

This slow hike is designed for ages 8 and up and all fitness levels. Unlike other strenuous hikes, this two-day hike features gentle slopes, gentle terrain, and scenic rest stops along the route.

two day hike

On the first day, hikers begin a 5km hike (just over 3 miles, approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes) before moving to a wooden deck facility for the night. Sea under the night sky. On day 2, the trip extends with an 11.5km hike (approximately 7 miles, approximately 3 hours 45 minutes trek) along the scenic coastal path, with the trail ending at Arniston Beach.

Hikers can spend a second night in any accommodation in Arniston and enjoy the local sights, sounds and experiences this quaint fishing village has to offer. A private shuttle service then collects visitors and transports them back to the De Mond nature reserve.

“These hikes allow people to connect with nature at a slower pace and fully enjoy their surroundings,” said Ashley Naidoo, CEO of CapeNature.
