SpaceX is heading toward what is expected to be the largest IPO of all time next month, and now it has received major support from the Trump administration.
On Friday, the U.S. Space Force announced it would give $4.16 billion to SpaceX as part of a contract to build satellites that will be part of a missile and air defense system that President Trump is calling the “Golden Dome.”
The announcement follows the Space Force awarding a separate contract worth $2.29 billion to Elon Musk’s company earlier this week. The contract involves SpaceX building a communications network in low-Earth orbit.
The deal supports disclosures detailed in SpaceX’s IPO filings released last week. SpaceX relies heavily on government contracts. A fifth of SpaceX’s revenue in 2025 will come from government sources.
Musk poured about $300 million into helping Trump get elected and has maintained a close relationship with the president. But SpaceX has also dominated the launch market for the past decade. It’s no surprise that the federal government continues to turn to SpaceX for contracts like this. Nonetheless, the company told investors in its IPO filing that “doing business with government agencies is subject to changes in policies, priorities, regulations, mandates and other matters.
